Şile Municipality Service Building

The fundamental approach in the landscape design of the Municipal Service Building is to create a defined welcoming square on an urban scale in front of the public building, establishing a permeable and inviting transition between the building and the city. The hardscape, shaped by linear bands, directs pedestrian movement while breaking up the large open space, creating a more defined and legible spatial arrangement. Wooden seating elements and pergolas offer semi-shaded social areas. Existing trees have been preserved as a key input to the design, creating a strong green continuity with the surrounding forest texture. The green spine, designed accordingly, offers a seamless pedestrian experience connecting different points of the area.

In the detailed design, the landscape is defined by the contrast between hard surfaces and controlled green islands. Groups of trees and linear bands of plants provide both microclimatic comfort and spatial hierarchy in the large square. Plant platforms and wooden seating surfaces, which create spatial boundaries, function both as boundary delineators and as social amenities. In the inner courtyard and semi-open areas, natural stone compositions, shadow play, and plant placements on the walls create a calm and meditative atmosphere. Thus, the project offers an open and public square language in the outdoor space, while providing a controlled and scaled landscape experience in the interior.
